Trump Rallies Republicans To Repeal Replace Obamacare, Fails And Blames…Democrats?
The “author” (put in quotes because is was likely written by a ghost writer) of The Art Of The Deal monumentally failed to broker the deal within his own party to pass the American Healthcare Act, the proposed GOP replacement for Obamacare that was crafted by Trump’s own Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price and House Speaker Paul Ryan. To his credit, after the failure of his bill with a republican majority in the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan faced the American People, manned up, and took ownership of the failure. Speaker Ryan took aim at himself and his party for the failure conceding that after 7 years of saying no, the GOP needs to learn how to be the governing party, which is far more difficult than simply criticizing saying no. Paul Ryan then fielded difficult questions from the press with respect and dignity, did not make excuses, and took responsibility for the not having the votes to pass this marquis piece of legislation that would have made good on the 7 year GOP promise to conservative voters to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Meanwhile, his President took zero ownership of this failure, instead blaming democrats who had zero input and involvement in this bill and were never expected to vote for this bill which would have dismantled the Affordable Care Act, President Obama’s signature legislative achievement; while his surrogates attacked and blamed Speaker Ryan. Fox News host Jeanine Pirro went so far as to demand Speaker Ryan’s resignation, while giving the supposed deal making genius President a 100% pass on his failure to close this deal!
Worse yet, Trump made clear his Plan B which is to let Obamacare “explode” and wait for the democrats to come to him when the program becomes collapses. As abysmal as not taking any responsibility for the failure of his bill (or anything else for that matter), the President announcing that he would let a healthcare act that is the law of the land since 2010 collapse, a prospect that endangers the health and lives of the American people (many of whom voted for him), is petty and grossly irresponsible at the very least.
Trump put the finishing touches of his ridiculous response to the healthcare bill failure by trying to create the false narrative that he never really promised to repeal and replace Obamacare during his campaign. Trump is either suffering from delusions or is a pathological liar, because he in fact during speeches or being quoted promised to repeal and replace Obamacare a total of 68 times during his campaign, including during the Presidential debates against Hillary Clinton!
