The EU, China, and India Pledge To Lead On Climate Change Action While Trump Aligns The US With Syria To Oppose It – And US CEO’s Condemn Trump For It

Trump Rejects World, Withdraws US From Paris Climate Agreement

Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the ground breaking Paris Climate Agreement is sending shock waves domestically and globally.  Particularly concerning domestically is that a growing number of corporations both within and outside of  the energy sectors and CEO’s (including Trump’s own Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, former CEO of Exxon-Mobile) not only opposed the president pulling us out of the agreement, but now are voicing grave concerns about the consequences of this action.

Trump’s decision to exit the Paris Agreement has led to global condemnation from countless world leaders, including China and India.  In response, the EU, China, and India have pledged that despite the US pulling out of the climate pact, they will remain undeterred to lead the world in carbon emission reduction and climate action.  While Trump’s decision may have appealed to his ever shrinking base (51% of republicans polled opposed the president pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement), as suggested by Goldman Sachs CEO (see below).  Here are direct quotes from several CEO’s:

Disney CEO Robert Iger

“Protecting our planet and driving economic growth are critical to our future, and they aren’t mutually exclusive, I deeply disagree with the decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement.”

Goldman Sachs CEO Loyd Blankfein

“Today’s decision is a setback for the environment and for the U.S.’s leadership position in the world. #ParisAgreement.”

GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt

“Disappointed with today’s decision on the Paris Agreement.  Climate change is real, Industry must now lead and not depend on government.”

CEO Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk

“Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.”

Apple CEO  Tim Cook

“Decision to withdraw from the #ParisAgreeement was wrong for our planet. Apple is committed to fight climate change and we will never waver.”

CEO Salesfoc Marc Benioff

“Deeply disappointed by President’s decision to withdraw from Paris Agreement. We will double our efforts to fight climate change.”

President Microsoft Brad Smith

“We’re disappointed with the decision to exit the Paris Agreement. Microsoft remains committed to doing our part to achieve its goals.”

CEO Google Sundar Pichai
