Is There A Silver Lining To American Citizens’ Lack Of Trust In The Trump White House?
A recent CNN poll SSRS poll concluded that 76% of voters do not have trust in the Trump White House. Simply stated, that means than more than 3/4 of the population does not believe anything President Trump or his administration says. And why would they? Trump himself has lied so blatantly about so many things, most of us have lost track. He then sends out his aids and pundits to attempt to lend credibility to his lies and/or defend them.
While this is generally a troubling affair for citizens of the USA to have such little trust in their elected leader, this week, there is some cause for us to take some comfort in Trump’s loose relationship with the truth as he has engaged with Kim Jong Un in trading aggressive statements and rhetoric threatening nuclear war with North Korea. We can only hope that he is as full of it as he usually is when he fires off statements like, “They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.” There are also his recent provocative Tweets, such as “My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before…”
Granted, it is truly shocking and frightening to have an American President firing off threatening rhetoric akin to an unhinged, lunatic dictator. It most certainly likely terrifies our NATO allies and damaghes the USA’s standing in the world. On the other hand, at least we can take some comfort in knowing that like most other things that come out of the President’s mouth, this is likely little more than hot air. We can only hope that North Korea and rest of the world feels the same as 76% of American’s that the President’s words are little more than just that…..words.
Interestingly, while 76% of Americans do not believe anything Trump and his White House says, in the same poll, 38% Americans approve of the job Trump is doing. While these are abysmal and historically record low polling numbers for any American President 200 days into his term, that means that 14% of Americans do mind mind being lied to by their President on a regular basis.
